We have three laser cutters available for student to use, located on the 4th floor. These machines are provided to help students laser cut their models and materials for class/personal projects.
Requirements: To book and use the laser cutters, students must complete the following steps:
– Complete the Quizzes: There are two quizzes in Moodle that students must take and pass to use the laser cutters. We highly recommend finishing those quizzes before coming to the In-Person training.
– Attend In-Person Training: Training sessions are held every Friday at 5:00 PM. No sign-up is required but you must arrive on time. If you arrive late or partway through the session, you’ll be asked to attend on a different day to ensure you don’t miss any important information.
– Each training group is limited to 6 students due to the size of the laser cutter room.
– If you’re unable to attend Friday training, please contact us to schedule an alternate day and time.
Rules:
– Do not leave the laser cutter unattended while it’s operating.
– Only cut approved materials. A list of allowed and prohibited materials is provided below.
– No food or drinks are allowed in the laser cutter room.
– Each booking slot is 90 minutes long. If you arrive late, you’ll have to work with the time remaining or reschedule for another day.
Below is a list of some common materials that are allowed and not allowed in the laser cutter. If you have a material not listed below, please contact us before use to verify that it is safe for both for the laser cutter and for your health, as some materials can release toxic fumes or damage the machine.
