THINGS TO KNOW!
Any student, faculty, or staff at The BAC can use the Laser Cutters.
There are three main prerequisites:
1) Enroll and complete (there are TWO QUIZZES) in the Online Laser Cutter Training Course. EMAIL CODER@the-bac.edu (from your BAC email account) to be enrolled
2) Attend a safety and use orientation prior to making an appointment. Orientations happen almost every Saturday at 12:00pm, noon, in the Laser Lab.
3) KNOW how to draft and print from AutoCAD or Rhino.
The Laser Cutters are for rapid and accurate scoring and cutting of thin materials – such as chipboard, cardboard, museum board, basswood, and acrylic.
There are restricted materials, sizes and thicknesses. Please see Laser Cutter Manual for additional information.
Laser Cutters are available during all open hours of the 320 Newbury Street building. Those hours are posted on the main BAC website here.
Appointments are available in 2-hour increments – one per person per day. They start at 8:30am on weekdays, and 8:00am on weekends.
The Laser Cutters are in the Laser Lab on the 4th Floor of 320 Newbury Street.
Use of the laser cutters is free! You do need to supply your own approved materials. See the Laser Cutter Manual for the approved materials list.
